Pilgrimage Highlights and Theme:
Date – December 18 -28
Theme – When the angels had left them and gone into Heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.” Luke 2: 13-16
Like the shepherds that hurried off to find Him on whom God’s favor rests come with us to celebrate this Christmas in Bethlehem and explore the birthplace of Jesus on a special Christmas Pilgrimage to the Holy Land .
Your journey will take you to many land marks you have read about in the Bible, Nazareth, the place where Jesus spent His childhood. Visit the Church of the Annunciation, built on the site of the house of Mary and Joseph, where the angel Gabriel revealed to Mary that she will soon become the Mother of God. See Mount Tabor to visit the Church of the Transfiguration, one of the most beautiful churches in the Holy Land. You get to enjoy a relaxing boat ride across the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus miraculously walked on the Sea.
Capernaum, the town of Jesus and the hometown of his first apostles – Peter, James, Andrew, John and Matthew. Here, Jesus taught in the local synagogue, performed numerous miracles, and healed the sick. Visit the Church of St. Peter which was built over the ruins of the house of St. Peter and the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fish, where Jesus fed the crowd. Pilgrims get to renew their baptismal vows at the River Jordan, where Jesus was baptized by St. John. Pilgrims who are married couples are opportune to renew their marriage vows at the Church of the First Miracle in Cana.
On Christmas Eve, Pilgrims will be at Bethlehem to take part in the Christmas solemnities. Attend the Midnight Christmas Mass at the Manger Square, of Nativity where Mary gave birth and lovingly cradled the baby Jesus in her arms and the nearby Milk Grotto where Jesus was fed .
Spend days in Bethlehem and most important on Christmas Eve. Visit Shepherd’s Field, identified since ancient times with the shepherds who first saw the Star of Nativity.Spend quality time in the Basilica of the Nativity here you will find the Grotto of the Nativity, a cave that has been honored as the site of Christ’s birth. Touch the Silver Star that marks the very spot where Christ is believed to have been born. Nearby is the Grotto of the Manger, marking the site where Mary laid the newborn Baby in the manger. Opposite the Grotto of the Manger is the Altar of the Magi.
One very important highlight of the pilgrimage is the opportunity pilgrims have to pray at the Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa (Way of Grief) in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was on this road that Jesus chose to suffer and die for all our sins because of His love for man.
Celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem with thousands of pilgrims from around the world! Participate in the festivities and make this Christmas Pilgrimage in the Holy Land a Christmas to Remember forever with your family.
